Quibble sees a girl with the longest legs, proportioned to body, he has ever viewed. She is struggling to get something or someone out of the backseat of a car. Quibble thinks: this must be what a prairie is like – long and fearless and suited to many purposes; yes, a prairie with its yellows and unbroken wind and wild grasses and the memory of bison and nomads. She finally wedges a tuba case out of the car and Quibble imagines it is someone else’s tuba and she is transporting it as a kindness. A prairie does not need an orchestra.



In June, my first collection of drabbles (13th collection overall), 226 drabbles (218 previously published, 8 still raw) from 62 venues:  "The Lechery of Fish Tuners".  It's out in paperback, Kindle e-book and on the Kindle Lending Library.  I did not do a non-Kindle epub, opting instead to try the Kindle Library.  To be in the Library, they require you not publish you book in any other epub format but Kindle (does not affect paperback).   The paperback is supposed to percolate to any bookstore that wants to carry it, but that should take about six weeks.  Right now, it is only available at Amazon (and on the shelf at Sundial Books in Chincoteague)

TAKE DOWN (Response to Deposition by Pascal Möhlmann (2024) ) The painter said they had arranged the scene as he liked, "thank you very much", so the crew of his assistants emerged from the corners to take it down. It was a crucifixion scene, the cross made of two long panels of wood leaned against a horizontal rafter of the studio; another wood panel rested in front of them on a sawhorse where the main figure had stood. The arrangement resembled a giant painter's easel, the artist's attempt at an understated comment on his work. The crew took down the long panels of wood easily; none had been nailed to hold them in place.
