I'm Not Here

I was in a hotel in Dublin. I went up to the woman behind the bar and asked for a drink. Her reply surprised me. "I am not the woman behind the bar." I was thinking about this when a song came on the radio. "The rain is Tess, the fire's Joe They call the wind Mariah". A golden oldie but because I do not have a name, I thought Mariah would probably suit me. So that is how I introduced myself to Liam. "So tell me, Mariah, where do you come from?" I don't come from anywhere. So I gave him a kiss. He probably thought I was being a bit forward. By the end of the evening, as a matter of course, we adjourned to Liam's room. On the way out, I said, "Good night, Joe," to the fire. All good things come to an end. In the morning I had my name, address and job again. Still I had enjoyed being Mariah.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165448347329 Derek McMillan is the editor of #worthingflash and the author of the "Brevity&

Ode to Evangeline

Image
I settle the orange camo muffs over my ears, fire off my best friend JJ’s new Smith & Wesson X-Frame 500 down the range and, ears ringing under their protective gear, muscles still thrumming from the recoil, think: Man, that’s THE GUN! I need for Evangeline -- Love of my life, joy of my heart; Eva, Eva, Eva. She of the bluest eyes, they make me sing. Cream in my coffee, slug in my barrel, she-bang in my life. It’s a damn shame JJ had to mess with the best thing I had going. I turn and put the next round dead between JJ’s eyes, then ease my phone out of a back pocket as the pink mist settles on his herky-jerky body. Darling! I say when she answers. Darling, get yourself ready. I’m coming to see you.

Romance in the Rain

By RAJAN V KOKKURI Author of BORN TO DREAM and other BOOKS. More slowly than usual, the Nagercoil Express departed from Bangalore. Due to the heavy rain and wind, the climate was cold and chilly. Emma took her seat well in advance and felt cosy in her seat. Emma was on her way to her native hamlet in Kerala to take up the postmaster’s position after enjoying her employment in a smaller town on the outskirts of Bangalore. The train reached Bangalore Cantonment Station. Emma was returning to her seat after refreshing herself, she noticed a senior woman was having trouble entering the compartment. Emma didn’t hesitate and reached out to help her. Emma assisted her in carrying her large bag to the seat reserved as per the ticket. Emma's seat was directly across this one. Emma made her sit near the window and helped her keep her belongings on the upper berth. Emma thought she had previously encountered this woman, but she was unable to recall the circumst
