For the Glory of Grace

Too many blunderers who, with saddened eyes, watched and saw people eating their pie sitting idly by. She asked Ms. Ferrand to "please watch my babies" and stepped out, saying, “An errand, maybe haste, maybe.”   Despite wanting this one, she didn’t tell Henri of another blunder they couldn't afford. She wondered if he already knew. She prayed to the Lord.   She pondered much of the day and then through the night until she made the final decision with horrific fright.   She dared not tell Henri because he would be ornery and insist that money could be found, and they were blessed with another to kiss with feet on the ground.   She would pay her money and expect to bleed dark red, thick, rich blood. She thought it could be done, and she would be home long before the setting sun.   As she walked by the mercantile sector, she did not see her husband notice she was in a hurry. He dropped his tools to follow her since she never went out and left the childre...

Laughing Aloud

“Shhh,” he said. “Here it is, but when he finds out?” “Snnuugh Rubububububua,” “They both laughed; he handed her the clothespin, his eyes sunken in but his face smiling. “I hear him from everywhere: I’m sure this will do it,” he said. Then giggled. “Quietly and with finesse, she stood, his snoring like an orchestra’s brass section of out-of-tune.” Clothespin in her hand: her brother directing from Mother's hospital bed in the living room. Auntie said, “Make him laugh as much as you can daily—illness struck him. We laughed the same as always. Remembering how mom did it.  Lily Finch

  Is It Love?

Her heart fluttered; the heat between them was intense. Moving in sync, they grooved and got the best of the night. She moaned, and he begged for more, with his salacious arousal heightened. He didn’t want to go there with her. She was someone who deserved more and better than that. He took what she gave and responded appropriately, leaving the obscenities at bay where they belonged. After they copulated, he became bold and realized that she was still hanging around, something he was not accustomed to. With her, it didn’t seem to bother him, and he wondered why?                 Lily FInch is the pen name for an author, editor, and creative writing mentor. I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

I Never Promised You A Rose Garden By LILY FINCH The Salvation Army has been around since 1865. An itinerate pastor named William Booth started the organization as a grassroots effort with boots on the ground in London. He didn't have buildings, but he did have a dedicated following who saw desperate need among the poorest of people and took to the streets to offer help. The Salvation Army is known for its charitable and Christian works all over the globe. One of their deeds was working with young and incarcerated people in Canada. Officers known as the Millers were one such couple chosen to do just this kind of work. Who could have predicted the terrible turn of events that would unfold when they decided on a ministry in Alberta, Canada? Paul Miller and his wife, Sandra, were good people and had a wonderful marriage, and they had taken all of the appropriate courses needed to work the prison circuit. (as prescribed by the Salvation Army to prepare them for working with s...

The Ruse

As he stood there open-mouthed, his wife gave the other woman, in this order: her final installment, a thank you and goodbye as the other woman handed over the baby and the diaper bag. *** One Year and Two Months Earlier. The oomph of the temptation was a wonderful distraction she, until today, had only dreamt of; flummoxed, she faltered, slightly dazed, no, actually stupefied, by his charm. He, all the while, nodded in agreement but was breathless at the ease with which they came together! He gave no thought at all to his wonderstruck wife at home. - The door to the hotel room opened quickly, and they fell into each other's arms without speaking as much as a word. Their attraction was intense and inventive. They took time with each other and hardly spoke. The man was happy and had no idea their afternoon was hardly as spontaneous as he believed. It was the perfect time of the month for her, and she had taken the prescribed hormone enhancer to ensure success. Why not have ...
