THE SILENCE BETWEEN STATIONS

Image
THE SILENCE BETWEEN STATIONS RAJAN V KOKKURI, ATTOOR It was my annual vacation once again in Kerala. After arriving in my hometown, I spent a day in my native village. I woke up early in the morning hearing the devotional songs from the nearby temple. I also could listen to the chipping sound of little birds and the sound of small creatures around the greenery of the village house. There was a little drizzling of raindrops, which made my day very enthusiastic too. As a practice that day also, I woke up early and went for my morning walk through the paddy field. Kuttan dropped me behind Mullurkara Railway Station and pointed toward a narrow pathway leading to the platform. After he left, I stood for a moment, taking in the surroundings. Much had changed, yet the place still held the quiet familiarity of my childhood. The Memu train from Shoranur to Ernakulam was due in half an hour. Instead of waiting, I walked to the nearby temple. Renovation work was underway; the structure look...

144 TO BOSTON RAJAN V KOKKURI   “GIVE ME A CHILD TILL HE IS SEVEN & I WILL GIVE YOU A MAN” Bruce Lipton      The 1 st seven years of the child’s life is programming and next few next years are expression of that program. I and my mother used to live in our ancestor house at a remote village of Thrissur. My father used to work in Bangalore those days. My mother had been to his place for few days vacation and returned. On that day I went to take bath in pond in our house. Generally, I try to swim on the steps and take bath. That day I saw wooden pole at distance I swam to that location without telling anything to my mother and swam back safely. My mother did not know I had learned swimming. Initially, she thought I had slipped into deep water. I had given a surprise and her anxiety became happiness suddenly. This was the 1 st wonderful achievement of my little childhood. ...

Mateo and Maria

MATEO & MARIA by Indian author RAJAN V KOKKURI     “Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired” -Robert Frost”   Mateo was born in a family having poor income in a distant Romanian beautiful village in Transylvania. Romania had a communist government during that time, and all teens were required to serve in the army for a minimum of 16 months.   Mateo also joined army and was serving in Vrancea County in southern part of Romania. It was March 4th, 1977. He went to a cloth store in the downtown of Vrancea to purchase a shawl. When Mateo walked into the store, he noticed a gorgeous girl organizing the garments on the shelf. Mateo said, "Hello, I want to buy a shawl". She took out a bundle of finely handmade shawls from the shelf.  While she was pulling the shawl, he didn’t forget to ask her name. “My name is Maria”.   While she was taking the material out of the wooden cabinet, the floor and cabinet moved noticeably....

Requite

Image
REQUITE RAJAN V KOKKURI It was my first time being away from family in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and I began experiencing severe headaches & I decided to return to India. On our way to meet my engineering manager to discuss resigning from my well-paying job, my driver Sherief, managed to change my decision. Sometime later, Sherief unexpectedly lost his job. I was devastated and determined to help him. Fortunately, I was able to persuade my American boss that without Sherief, it would be impossible to deliver engineering packages to the 17 Saudi Aramco offices. Thankfully, he agreed & Sherief was reinstated.

Hear My Cries

Image
Rajan V Kokkuri You were born from me the mother earth. I'm crying quietly since I can't express how I'm feeling or how grieved. You took everything from me got hurt in return. Let everyone make an effort to protect the soil and ecosystem. You can all grow your own food, let the birds sing freely, let the plants get watered by the rain. Why won't everyone help me ensure that there is life for the future generations too. Everyone was put to the test by the Covid virus, but yet to learn their lesson.

Romance in the Rain

By RAJAN V KOKKURI Author of BORN TO DREAM and other BOOKS. More slowly than usual, the Nagercoil Express departed from Bangalore. Due to the heavy rain and wind, the climate was cold and chilly. Emma took her seat well in advance and felt cosy in her seat. Emma was on her way to her native hamlet in Kerala to take up the postmaster’s position after enjoying her employment in a smaller town on the outskirts of Bangalore. The train reached Bangalore Cantonment Station. Emma was returning to her seat after refreshing herself, she noticed a senior woman was having trouble entering the compartment. Emma didn’t hesitate and reached out to help her. Emma assisted her in carrying her large bag to the seat reserved as per the ticket. Emma's seat was directly across this one. Emma made her sit near the window and helped her keep her belongings on the upper berth. Emma thought she had previously encountered this woman, but she was unable to recall the circumst...

The Shelter

Image
By RAJAN V KOKKURI The Nagarkovil Express left Bangalore City later than usual. The atmosphere was cold due to rain and wind. Maria took her seat well in advance and it was comfortable since the train was commencing from the Bangalore City. Maria enjoyed her work in a smaller township in the outskirts of Bangalore and was heading to her native village in Kerala to take up the job of Postmaster. The train was about to reach Cantonment Station in Bangalore. Because the bogie was outside the platform area, an elderly lady was having difficulty getting inside the compartment. While returning from the restroom, Maria had a glance around. Maria extended her hand to an elderly lady after noticing her situation. The elderly lady was having difficulty carrying her luggage. Maria helped her carry her big bag to the designated seat on the ticket. The seat was just across from Maria's seat. Maria assisted with the storage of the bags on the upper berth and advised the lady ...
