Three stories from Rathin Bhattacharjee
100-word Challenge
At The Other End of The Rainbow
“There lies a treasure at the other end of the rainbow.” These words of the wise made Ron hit the road when he saw a rainbow emerging across the sky after a light drizzle one day.
Days had turned to months, months to years before he finally got to the other end. But there’s no treasure!
True meaning of the words of the wise was driven home sometime later when he realised that the experience he had gained from his treasure-haunt, the aesthetic pleasure he derived from the exquisite view all around, was worth more than that of a goldmine!

God’s Sense of Justice
The day a commemorative meeting was held in honour of Ranak’s Jyatha where the invited guests didn’t utter a single word about his late Baba, Ranak knew his first cousin could never forgive his Baba for helping him with a job!
He recalled Vidyasagar’s epic remark: “Why are you criticising me? I haven’t done you any favours!”
“You all are trying to erase any memory of my late father! God won’t let you succeed.” He thought to himself with clenched teeth.
The day his book on his father won critical acclaim, Ranak knew his father would outlive all his Jyathas.
The end
Sagacious Seema
Ashok, superstitious by nature, forbade his wife, Seema, against telling anybody about his newly-purchased flat.
“Some people have black eyes, you know.”
But when her mother-in-law lay on her deathbed, Seema told her about their flat.
Ashok’s mother died a contended woman.
Ashok plucked out his mother’s photo from one of the cartons scattered on the floor.
“What’s the point! Ma will never know about our flat!” He sighed.
“Don’t worry. She’s looking at it right now from above.” Seema quipped.
“Stupid. She didn’t even know!”
“She did. I told her.”
He’d tears in his eyes as the truth unfolded.
