Written in the Stars

We are made of star stuff; every fiber, every organ—Lung, Liver, and Heart. If the Heart is connected to the Stars, then perhaps we should be more keen to follow its whims. Often, the Heart knows what the mind doesn’t. Ever had the inexplicable urge to try something, without any logical thought to justify it? That was your Heart, calling out to you without a voice, aligning you with what the stars have written for you.
Trust it, even when it’s scary. The Heart knows better than us, my indoctrinated peers, what we were born to do. It was forged in the Stars, after all, where they say our destinies are written. There, the Stars inscribe into the Heart a prophecy, before creating a vehicle for it to drive, a process we call Fate.
More of an outline than a fully-written story, Fate is neither strict nor understood; we do not know Fate, but Fate knows us. Unfortunately, us being the lost travelers that we are, we wander into the tangled web of conformity before we realize it. It sticks to us, and while some of us surrender to this trap, there are those of us who struggle to escape it. Whatever we choose to do, we are always forced to face the Stars and read their message. However, the language of the Stars is a forgotten one, so the message is easily misinterpreted. Because of this, we often let Doubt—an easier language to decipher—direct our actions, mistaking it for Fate.
The Universe is so vast and constant,” we read in Doubt, “A temporary thing, you are so small in comparison; you live, you breathe, but you matter little. Sentient you may be, but your role in this play is insignificant. The Universe is filled with the unknown; stay here, where the unknown can’t find you.” Those of us who are daunted by this message remain stuck in the tangled web, too petrified to move. As for those of us patient enough to decipher the language of the Stars, complex yet wordless, we realize that Doubt is nothing more than a paraphrase, generally correct but ultimately not precise. “The Universe is so vast and constant,” we persistent individuals read in the Stars, “And you are temporary, so small in comparison. Yet, you are here now, a living, breathing microcosm of the Universe. Intelligent and awake, you have a small but no less vital part to play. The Universe is filled with the unknown; tap into your role, inscribed in the Heart by the Stars, and chase down the unknown.”
The Universe wants to be known. Made of star stuff, we are intrinsically connected by the threads of the Universe. The Universe weaved and stitched our forms into being, granting us the gift of intelligence. Utilizing all the attributes of this gift—curiosity, creativity, and ingenuity—we have been assigned to learn the language of the Universe.
As individuals, we tend to downplay our significance merely because we are insignificant. It is true that Polaris’s eye is not fixed on us, but we still matter more than we can readily admit. We already know what the Stars have written for us—our role is already inscribed into the Heart. It is easy, however, to lose ourselves in the complex and twisted schemes of the day-to-day, and once more we look to the Stars for guidance. “Raise the alarms!” we read the stars in Doubt, “Nothing is under control!” Before further inspection, some of us are thrown into an inward panic—we worry, we play not to lose, we ignore the whims of the Heart. But for those of us who are able to swallow our fright, we read in the Stars: “Keep calm, nothing is under control.” With this message, we contemplative few are at peace—we take a breath, we play to win, we follow the whims of the Heart.
The Heart is a reliable and trustworthy instrument, but there is only so much it can do. It cannot control anything outside of its vessel. The Universe is an unpredictable wilderness; it is no use relying on the Heart to control its actions. We can, however, rely on the Heart to control our own actions. As long as we have the patience and the courage to fully decipher the language of the Stars, we can finally help the Universe fulfill its dream of being known.
